El Viento Flamenco was co-founded by Evelyne Benais and Bob Sutherby in 1996 in St. John's, Newfoundland. With the addidion of singer Sean Harris and percussionist Tony Tucker, the group took their show on the road, exposing Maritime audiences to their unique brand of raw, earthy flamenco. In 2001 the group moved to Halifax and added Maral Perk and Megan Matheson to complete the lineup. In the past few years El Viento has enjoyed great success with a 2007 ECMA for "El Viento Flamenco In Concert" as well as premiering unique collaborative works for orchestra with Symphony Nova Scotia, Orchestre Symphonique de Québec and the Victoria Symphony.
