Atlantic Canada's international flamenco festival started as the brainchild of Madrid-born dancer and choreographer Maria Osende. Together with JazzEast the first winter edition of the festival "Flamenco in February" was first produced in 2006, since the flamenco festival has developed into one of Halifax´s most anticipated events.
The festival is organized by the Flamenco Festival Atlantic Society (FFA) with founder Maria Osende as Artistic Director. FFA is a not-for-profit and charitable organization with a strong volunteer and community base of aficionados and supporters, whose passion is the promotion and dissemination of flamenco and Spanish Culture. FFA presents "Flamenco in February", a small winter series, and "Fall for Flamenco Festival" in October , a week-long festival featuring guest artists from Spain, workshops, local artists and outreach programs.
Past FFA festivals have included such distinguished Spanish artists as Juan Martin, Manuel Reyes Maya, Joaquin Ruiz, Inmaculada Ortega and Rafael Campallo, as well as renowned local groups El Viento Flamenco and Maria Osende Flamenco Companya amongst others.
This unique cultural, educational and artistic event enriches the community life of the city and region. Join us. Fell the passion, fall for flamenco. Olé!
